The Foundations of Art V, PAINTING: Portraying Ideas
(This is an advanced oil painting class ; eligible students have mastered a minimum of Foundations I & II OR have a traditional portfolio from a studio with possibly similar standards).
Students will continue to reach for improving painting skills having instruction in color theory, effective palettes and mixing, technique, use of light and shadow, preparing various surfaces for painting, all while enjoying the process of creating something lovely for the home.
Review & New: Evaluation of the contemporary ‘Art World’ reminds us of the challenge for Christians to produce uplifting art that is practical, satisfying and good for the soul, worthy of hanging on our walls. Wary of the deceptive Age that seeks to manipulate, we will hold to our Creator as The Interpreter of Total Reality, of what is beautiful, good and true.
11:15-2:00 P.M. Wednesdays @ Homeschool Hangout $300
Supplies: Table easel; Masterson Blue-lid Box Palette with picture glass cut the size of the palette box; metal palette knife; mostly filbert shaped brushes in as many sizes as possible, especially have 2 or 3 #2 sizes, range sizes to an inch wide or more; one or two round brushes, #4,#6; tiny filbert for signing your finished painting, small places; old cotton t-shirts cut into rags; rough terry-cloth towel rags for cleaning brushes; glass jars to hold mineral spirits and linseed oil; Viva paper towels
Tubes of Oil Color: (You may use my colors for a $75 use fee).
Raw Umber, Yellow Ochre, small Terra Rosa, small Indian red Ivory Black, Cremnitz White (or if you have Zinc White, use it), Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue, Cadmium Red Deep, Rose Madder, Cadmium Lemon Yellow Deep, Azo Orange or Cadmium Orange. (Suggestion: try and look for Sunday 40% off coupons for Michael’s and get easel and palette box. Then collect your tubes. Gamblin and Van Gogh are good, economical paints. Blick employees are informed and helpful. They give a 10% discount for students in class).
A two-hour class, Foundations I has a two main objectives. Students will be taught to draw realistically, three-dimensionally, excellently. Furthermore, students will gain wisdom from artists of the past,learn art forms, art vocabulary, historical cultures building a biblical view. Using the meticulous research, and invaluable analysis of the late theologian, Dr. Francis A.Schaeffer, students will be given an overview of time & History from The Roman Era to the present age upon which to further extrapolate with subsequent courses.

6,000 Years of Art & History, Part I
This fast paced History/Art Course will go through 4,000 Years of History B.C. and through the Life of Christ. (Part II in January takes up there and comes up to the present age). Students learn art skills with multi-media while learning and drawing great historical events, gaining a sense of linear history in time and space. Contour drawing skills by the use of pencil & pen, painting with watercolor, colored pencils will span the figure, face, animals, natural objects and objects d’ art. You’ll have noteworthy artwork to display.
Students 11 years and above will be instructed, encouraged and challenged.
